  ENERGY STAR®
for New Homes Initiative

The ENERGY STAR for New Homes initiative was developed
by Natural Resources Canada in 2005. With this initiative,
builders across Canada are building high-quality homes that
comply with stringent energy-efficient guidelines. By building
these ENERGY STAR qualified homes, you can help your
customers to reduce energy consumption and costs.

ENERGY STAR

Building energy-efficient homes begins
before construction, where you’ll work with
a certified energy advisor to evaluate building
plans and continue to work with them
throughout the entire process. This way
you’re building a better home from the very
beginning, and your customers can avoid

doing upgrades after moving in. Once the house has been built, it will have an
increased EnerGuide rating. The home will also receive an ENERGY STAR label,
which is placed on the home’s electrical panel. This label shows that the home is
ENERGY STAR qualified, and includes the home address, builder name, rater
name, and date of verification.

An ENERGY STAR qualified home is achieved by including features like additional
insulation, high-performance windows and doors, efficient heating equipment, tight
construction and ducts, and ENERGY STAR qualified lighting and appliances.
With every ENERGY STAR qualified home you build you’ll be employing innovative
homebuilding technologies, and selling a better product to your customers.
